Nind Mill House Gloucestershire
The house was commissioned as the result of winning first prize in a national design competition for young Architects. The brief was to provide a modern and affordable family home for the manager of a trout farm and was designed as a response to the open landscape setting. The house is anchored into the surrounding environment by the creation of earth banks raised up against the east and west walls which also enclose and define the entrance forecourt and garden elevation. The heart of the dwelling is the double-height conservatory where internal balconies open onto it at first floor level. The design incorporates innovations in low energy design and on completion the house won an Aluminium Imagination Award in 1990.
