Fourwoods Bath

The design of this new rooftop extension to a 1970s family home is a contemporary version of the traditional dormer window. Extending across the full width of the new skyline room, the window is conceived to take full advantage of the spectacular views out over the city. This is achieved by designing the supporting timber structure to stand away from the front edge of the dormer, allowing the frameless corner glazing to be free from obstruction. A number of environmental improvements were also undertaken to the existing house, including additional insulation to the external envelope and new hot water and electricity generating solar panels, for which a £11,000 government grant was obtained.
