Our approach when working with existing and historic buildings is one of creative reuse. Where appropriate we carry out careful conservation of the existing fabric, sensitive alteration and appropriate additions that will enhance and extend a building’s working life and sustain the changing needs of their users.
Every situation is unique and we aim for any new proposal to respond sensitively, whether in similar or contrasting materials, and in a contemporary manner to add an honest ‘layer’ to a building’s history.
We achieve this in part through historical research, an understanding of traditional building techniques and negotiation with the relevant parties.
